Windows XP Slow Bootup Problems

Does your PC take a long time to boot?  Do you see the Windows XP splash screen for a minute or longer?  There is a fix and it might be simpler than you think.  Another symptom of this issue is consistently high CPU utilization when you view your Task Manager yet no single task seems to be the culprit.

The issue might be your IDA ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Go to your Device Manager->IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers->Primary IDE Channel->Advanced Settings.  If you see the Transfer Mode set to “PIO Only” you have this issue.  You can uninstall the driver for your Primary and/or Secondary IDE Channel and restart.

If you need help with this or any other PC related issue in the Parker – Denver, Colorado area give me a call for an estimate and a comprehensive evaluation.
